Rock Island Trail Ribbon Cutting – Owensville, Missouri

On May 31, 2025, the City of Owensville proudly celebrated the ribbon cutting and grand opening of its nearly 3-mile stretch of the Rock Island Trail State Park. This transformative project brings new recreational opportunities, promotes regional connectivity, and honors the spirit of Missouri’s historic rail corridors.

Archer-Elgin was honored to serve as the engineering partner for this exciting development, which was made possible through a $500,000 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Grant awarded in August 2022. Construction officially began with a groundbreaking ceremony on April 5, 2024, and the completed trail now welcomes walkers, runners, and cyclists through the heart of the community.

This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and long-term vision. Sincere thanks go to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri State Parks, Friends of Rock Island Trail State Park, the City of Owensville, Meramec Regional Planning Commission, KJ Unnerstall Construction, Representative Bruce Sassmann, Chrysa Niewald, and many community members who supported and celebrated the trail's success.
