Derek Shultz

Derek1Derek is a Civil Designer for Archer-Elgin, having obtained certification in drafting from the Rolla Technical Institute, Rolla, Missouri. Derek has ten years of practical experience in the field of drafting. He has developed expertise in drafting and assistance in design in all public infrastructure areas to include water distribution and supply, wastewater collection and treatment, stormwater system management and transportation systems including streets and pedestrian systems. Derek also has many years of experience in field survey work and the development of site design, plans and mapping, including GIS.

Derek was born and raised in Cabool, Missouri, the second of four boys, where his parents were both employed by the school system. After graduating from high school, Derek’s educational background includes undergraduate work pursuing a degree in music performance from Missouri State University.

Derek is married to Katie, a fifth-grade teacher in the St. James Schools, and they have two children, Brett and Quinn. In his spare time Derek enjoys fly fishing, reading, and playing darts. The family likes spending time together, enjoying the many amenities of this area including the St. Louis Zoo, museums, parks and exploring rivers and streams.

Derek’s love of music has continued throughout his life and he plays guitar, drums, and sings – joining area bands from time-to-time for performances. His preferences are jazz and bluegrass but he says he likes to play pretty much any type of music. His creativity is also a benefit in his work for Archer-Elgin and is evident in his designs, plans and maps.
